In an announcement Tuesday, the NGA praised the legislation for including numerous key principles the firm has long advocated for.
This includes boosting rehabilitation efforts to relieve prisoners into the community and making changes into the three-strike policy implemented in the Clinton administration.
More than 30 states have previously passed similar reforms, which are met with lower prison costs and reduced incarceration rates.
In response, the NGA is looking on Congress to feed the reforms quickly for the federal level.
